Development Grants

The Foundation provides grants on an annual basis in the following categories:

QAS Professional Development Grant - $1,000

The Foundation also supports the professional development of Ambulance Officers by providing financial assistance to attend a conference or similar activity.

The conference or activity must be relevant to paramedic practice, pre-hospital care or emergency medicine, and recipients must be able to demonstrate that their attendance will help them to meet a career development objective.

This grant will be made to any Ambulance Officer for a significant contribution to the promotion or development of the corporate image of QAS generally.

The grantwill provide financial assistance to attend a conference or similar activity in the pre-hospital care or emergency medicine fields.

AEA/LHMU Outstanding Student of the Year Grant - $2,000

This award is offered to encourage student paramedics to strive for excellence throughout their course and competency achievement phase. 

A grant of $2,000 will be provided to assist the student to further studies, competencies, or ambulance knowledge in their subsequent 12 months of full time service.

The grant recipient is selected from nominations made by educators from Queensland Combined Emergency Services Academy School of Ambulance and Paramedic Studies (QCESA), Regional Staff Development officers and the student’s immediate supervisors. 

The selection is made through a competitive assessment process by a panel chaired by the Education and Development Manager. All QAS officers who have graduated form the core program in the twelve months preceding the grant are eligible.

The winner of this grant will be a Paramedic from the QAS core paramedic education program who has graduated in the preceding 12 months, having demonstrated consistent outstanding performance throughout their studies.

Applicants must be nominated by QCESA School of Education Lutwyche Campus or the Regional Manager Staff Development through QCESA School of Education Lutwyche Campus.

To devise clinical checking systems that assist us as a team to perform clinical procedures.


General Administration

Grants are announced and arrangements advised for subsequent presentation at the annual KJ McPherson Education and Research Foundation Patron’s Day Gala Dinner.

The decision of the Foundation Committee Members shall be final in all matters relating to any grant.

All eligible QAS personnel are strongly encouraged to enter these prestigious and most worthy grants in the spirit of continuing the work carried out by Ambulance Officer Kenneth James McPherson DSM.
