Central Region

Central Region extends along the coast line of Whitsunday Shire to the south of Miriam Vale and west to the South Australian border. The region covers approximately 440,000 square kilometres and takes in the tourist destinations of Whitsunday through the industrial areas of Rockhampton and Gladstone, onto the coal mining basin of Moranbah, Dysart, Blackwater, Emerald and Moura. The region also takes in our rural communities involved in grain, sugar, beef and sheep production.

The regions population is approximately 320,000 people, with the majority of the population being based in the coastal cities of Mackay, Rockhampton and Gladstone. Some of the fastest growing shires and cities of Queensland are situated within the region. Pronounced industrial growth is occurring at Rockhampton and Gladstone, along with growth in tourism at Mackay. The western areas of Longreach, Winton, Blackall and Barcaldine are also developing as tourist areas, part of Queensland outback heritage trail.

Central Queensland ambulance provides coverage to the people of Central Region through 61 permanent and honorary ambulance stations based throughout the region. QAS Central Region also provides coverage to the industrial sector of the region through commercial contracts providing pre-hospital care on mine sites, major constructions sites, and other industrial complexes. The service works closely with rescue helicopters based at Rockhampton and Mackay and with the Royal Flying Doctor Service fixed wing aircraft, also based at Rockhampton.

Central Region believes its strength lies in it’s people. From the ambulance staff to the support staff to the communications staff, all of the people working for the Queensland Ambulance Service Central Region are committed to providing the best possible service to our customers. We are all committed to the principles of quality management and to continuous improvement. All staff undergo regular skills validation and participate in update training on a regular basis.
