Welcome from the Assistant Commissioner
Thank you for visiting the QAS Northern Region site. This site provides a great overview of the services provided by the QAS Northern Region, as well as how the QAS works with other organisations and departments to enhance service delivery within the region. The site also provides some information about the region itself.
The Northern Region is unique and very interesting in its service provision.
We are the largest region geographically, covering about 72% of the state’s
area. We have a number of single officer stations, stations in remote, island
and indigenous communities, and some of the longest response distances in
the state. We also have the busiest station in the state (Townsville). These
factors give rise to a range of considerations in providing adequate ambulance
coverage for such a large and diverse area, and requires that we work closely
with other service providers, such as Queensland Health and Royal Flying
Doctor Service, to assist in this service provision.
We have a number of units within the Northern Region QAS who operate together as a team to ensure service provision to the communities they serve. These are the operational (Paramedic) officers and Patient Transport Officers, the Communications Centre Staff, the Customer Service staff, Staff Development Unit and Regional Management and Support staff. Further information is available about these units on other pages in this site.
While the QAS Northern Region provides an excellent emergency pre-hospital care and transport service, we are also involved in preventive strategies to improve community safety and health. These include conduct of community education courses, as well as involvement with other departments and organisations in projects and working groups involved in injury prevention and health promotion. Further detail is also available on this site.
Again, thank you for visiting our site. I hope it proves to be interesting and useful to you. We welcome feedback or further enquiries about our region via our Contact Us page.
