Our Services
The Northern Region of the QAS plays an important role in the communities of the Northern Region in providing pre-hospital care and non-urgent transport for residents throughout the region. In addition, we participate with other authorities in provision of an integrated emergency medical service (Queensland Emergency Medical Service, or QEMS), and assistance with emergency and disaster planning for various areas within the region.
The QAS Northern Region also participates in activities aimed at health promotion, injury prevention and in preparing community members to prepare for and respond to the occurrence of illness and injury. Representatives from the region are involved in health promotion and injury prevention projects such as the Child Injury Prevention Project, the North-West Road Safety Project, drug awareness strategies and indigenous health strategies.
The Community Education Unit provides a number of first aid and injury prevention courses for members of the public and industry. Some of these courses are aimed at specific target groups, such as Older and Wiser (injury prevention in older people), Farm Safe (injury prevention and basic first aid for farming areas), and One Step Ahead (injury prevention in child care). There are also a range of general courses providing first aid and resuscitation skills at different levels. Community Education staff can provide advice on the appropriate first aid course to suit the needs of individuals or workplaces. The service also has a range of first aid products for sale.
